What is artificial intelligence?
In short, artificial intelligence is "intelligent" computer systems capable of solving problems, as well as learning from their own mistakes and experiences. Such computer systems are developed using theoretical and experimental data tools to study intelligent behaviour. Based on the results, we develop intelligent computer systems.
Another aspect of artificial intelligence is that we create algorithms to sort large amounts of data. Examples may be the algorithms of search engines like those used by Google. Search engines sort a wealth of information, to give the user a match for the keyword he or she has entered.
Today, there is great emphasis on computer systems and artificial intelligence, as we believe artificial intelligence is a major part of our future. So, doubtless there will be an increasing need for engineers in this field.
Combining artificial and human intelligence
Even though the surgeon's hands can be replaced with a machine, we still need someone with the knowledge of a surgeon to instruct a robot to perform the right job. We have already seen examples where the surgeon himself controls the robot from a computer. Just watch this video...
Engineers in the field of artificial intelligence
In other words, we need to combine artificial intelligence with human intelligence for the job to be performed properly. This means that in the future, there will be an increasing need for engineers educated in artificial intelligence.
