UKCA mark certification for the United Kingdom

A new conformity assessment scheme for products intended for the UK market (England, Scotland & Wales - special rules apply for Northern Ireland).

Legislation and Standards

Following the UK's departure from the EU, new UK Legislative Instruments replace EU Directives, and UK Designated Standards replace EU Harmonized Standards. Manufacturers must reference these UK standards in technical documentation instead of EU legislation. While technical requirements remain largely similar to current EU standards, manufacturers are responsible for ensuring compliance.

Products are subject to either self-declaration or third-party conformity assessment, with UKCA assessments conducted by a UKCA notified body. UKCA marking is required for entry into the UK market, replacing CE marking for most goods after December 31, 2022 (with extended deadlines for medical devices).

NB: From august 2023 the UK government have informed that CE marking will be accepted used for the UK market for certain areas, including ATEX equipment.

Related Standards and Regulations

Several categories of UKCA marking are defined, particularly relevant to ATEX, Pressure Equipment, Construction Products, and Medical Devices:

Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2016
