The world needs more energy. This leads to exploration and development of oil fields in harsh and vulnerable environments, such as the Arctic. In addition, commercial shipping may increase along the northern sea routes. At the same time, accidents will happen. Imagine a serious oil spill in the Arctic. A cold, inaccessible, vulnerable environment covered with oil. A scenario no one wanted to see, but at this point the critical questions can no longer be avoided:

Imagine a serious oil spill in the Arctic. A cold, inaccessible, vulnerable environment covered with oil. A scenario no one wanted to see, but at this point the critical questions can no longer be avoided:

  • Do we understand direct and indirect consequences of a major oil spill in these areas?
  • How do we make decisions on the right level of emergency preparedness (balancing cost, risk and return)?
  • How do we calculate and communicate the risk?
  • Do we have the right people, vessels and equipment in the right places to collect the oil and to clean up the environment?

These and more questions will be the topic for this year Summer Project in DNV; “Oil Spill Contingency in the Arctic - the process, equipment and systems”.

If you are trigged by the challenges of exploration and operations in the arctic; including the full range of issues from technology, economics, environmental oil spill modelling, logistics, risk management, politics, human behaviour, social responsibility, ...

AND you want to work together with 9 other highly talented and carefully selected students from different universities, this is your chance to develop and learn more about DNV and what kind of a company we are.

We will be present at different career fairs in Norway in January and February. Please note that we will visit both Oslo and Tromsø after the application deadline, which is 15 February.
